Knowing the location of private and public lands can help identify areas that are already protected as well as those in need of protection. A parcel that is surrounded by publicly owned lands may have a higher acquisition priority to a land trust, for example, than a parcel surrounded by land in private ownership. Gorge GIS utilizes county tax assessment data and GIS programming to produce timely and accurate ownership maps that reflect the dynamic nature of land-ownership.
